The East Bank Consolidated Fire Department is a full-time, career fire department of 200 members serving the parish's East Bank from 10 fire stations, governed by the Jefferson Parish State Civil Service Board. Benefits
Civil service employees accrue paid vacation and sick leave (one half-day of each per two weeks worked, increasing with tenure), plus nine paid holidays. An HMO medical plan is offered, with the parish paying 80% of the employee premium and 50% of dependent premiums, along with a pre-tax Flexible Benefits Plan. Employees receive term life insurance equal to one year's salary. Most employees participate in the Parochial Employees' Retirement System (in lieu of Social Security), with pension calculated at 3% per year of service and eligibility at age 67 (7 years), age 62 (10 years), or age 55 (30 years); a 457(b) deferred compensation plan is also available. Employees with two or more years of service receive $25 per year of service paid each December.
