Department careers page ↗Livingston Parish Fire Protection District 4 was established in 1975 in response to community advocacy after the Town of Walker's own fire department stopped covering the surrounding unincorporated area, leaving hundreds of square miles without protection. Since then the district has grown into a full-service public safety agency, adding integrated emergency medical services in 1980 alongside its core fire suppression, rescue, and hazardous materials response mission.
Today LPFPD4 protects roughly 72,000 residents across 24,125 households in a 225-square-mile service area, operating out of 10 stations with an 11th under construction, and holds an ISO Public Protection Classification of 3. The district blends full-time, part-time, and volunteer firefighters with a medical auxiliary, and has recently invested in new pumper apparatus and its own in-house recruit academy.
The department also runs workforce-development pipelines aimed at young people, including a Louisiana High School Firefighter Training Program and a Junior Firefighter Program for 16-17 year-olds, both feeding certified graduates into the fire service alongside its own recruit academy.
MissionProvide the highest level of emergency services for our community.
LPFPD4 hires Full-Time and Part-Time Firefighter/Operators, Volunteer Firefighters, and Medical Auxiliary members, and states it currently has open positions across all of these categories. New hires who need certification go through the department's own in-house Recruit Academy as paid department employees.
