About Sabine Fire District 1, Wards 3 and 4

Central Sabine Fire Department covers Wards 3 and 4 of Sabine Parish, responding to fire suppression, rescue, hazmat, EMS, and dive calls out of 13 stations spread across the district. Station 12, on LA-6 in Many, is the department's only full-time-staffed house, with two firefighters on duty around the clock, while the rest of the district is covered by community volunteers and part-time members.

The department is overseen by a Board of Directors that meets monthly and is led by Fire Chief Scott Gowen alongside a command staff covering operations, training, and EMS. It maintains a Class 5 rating from the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana and leans on mutual aid from North Sabine Fire, South Sabine Fire, and Natchitoches Parish Fire District 7, plus regional partners like the Sabine Parish Sheriff's Office, Acadian Ambulance, and the Louisiana State Fire Marshal's Office.

With call volume topping 1,000 responses a year and rising, the department actively recruits and trains its own members through weekly Thursday drills and an in-house academy, supplemented by outside coursework at the Alabama Fire College and TEEX in College Station, Texas.
