Department careers page ↗The St. Martin Parish Fire Protection District was created in 1967 when parish voters approved public funding to support twelve local fire departments. Rather than operating as a single consolidated department, the District functions as a coordinating and training body for those twelve community volunteer departments — including Arnaudville, Belle River, Breaux Bridge, Butte La Rose, Cade, Catahoula, Cecilia, Coteau Holmes, Evangeline, Henderson, Parks, and Stephensville — each of which maintains its own station and roster while drawing on shared District resources.
Today the District's combined fleet includes 26 engines, five pumper/tankers, and six tankers, backed by an all-volunteer force of roughly 240 firefighters who together log more than 12,000 training hours a year. The District office and training center in Breaux Bridge houses a Fire Coordinator, a District Technician, a Training Officer, and an Emergency Vehicle Technician who support the twelve member departments with training, apparatus maintenance, and coordination across the parish's roughly 1,300 annual emergency calls.
The District recruits volunteer firefighters for its twelve member departments through a short online interest form; the Fire District Coordinator follows up directly with applicants to discuss placement with a local department.
