Department careers page ↗St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District 3 has served the rural, unincorporated Ward 7 area of St. Tammany Parish since 1954, keeping crews on duty around the clock to protect the residents of Lacombe with fire suppression, rescue, and advanced life support ambulance service.
In 2026 the district's fire protection rating, assessed by the Property Insurance Association of Louisiana (PIAL), improved from a Class 4 to a Class 3, effective April 1, 2026. PIAL cited gains in staffing, training, water supply and hydrant infrastructure, emergency communications, and fire prevention programs as factors in the upgrade, which can lower property insurance costs for homes and businesses in the district.
The district is governed by an elected Board of Commissioners and a separate Civil Service Board, and is led operationally by Fire Chief Michael Geissler, who has emphasized excellence, professionalism, and continued community partnership as the department's priorities.
MissionWe, the members of St. Tammany Parish Fire Protection District No. 3, shall strive to save lives and protect property through safe, cost effective and professional service.
STFD3 is currently accepting applications for full-time and part-time firefighter/EMS positions, as well as a Reserve Program, through both an online application (Adobe eSign) and a printable paper form; minimum requirements are detailed in separate downloadable documents specific to each position type.
