About Wells Fire Department

Wells Fire Department serves the Town of Wells, a coastal community in York County, Maine, that swells from roughly 10,600 year-round residents to more than 20,300 during the summer season. The department covers approximately 60 square miles of fire prevention, suppression, and medical rescue territory.

It is a combination department, staffed by 19 full-time employees, the Fire Chief, an Assistant Fire Chief, an Executive Assistant, four Captains, and twelve firefighters, alongside roughly nine active paid on-call members. The career staff is represented by International Association of Firefighters Local #4652.

The department runs from a main Public Safety Facility at 1563 Post Road and a second, newer station on North Berwick Road that opened in January 2021. Its apparatus fleet includes engines, a tower, tankers, brush and utility units, and a boat, reflecting a mix of structural, wildland, and water-related response needs.

Beyond emergency response, Wells firefighters handle fire safety inspections, school programs, and seasonal ocean rescue coverage from June through September.

MissionTo provide the Town of Wells with an effective, efficient, and economical fire prevention, suppression and medical rescue service.
