About Hull Fire Department

Hull Fire Department serves the town of Hull on Massachusetts' South Shore, a peninsula community whose population swells seasonally with Nantasket Beach visitors. Every member of the department is trained as either a paramedic or an EMT, and the department fields two full-time Advanced Life Support transporting ambulances plus a non-transporting ALS unit around the clock, supplemented by additional seasonal ALS coverage at Nantasket Beach on weekends and high-heat days. Beyond fire suppression and EMS, the department's responsibilities extend to hazardous materials response, technical rescue, and seasonal marine/water rescue support along Hull's waterfront.

The department traces its roots to Hull's earliest fire regulations in the 1670s and its first paid firefighters in 1878, and it made regional history between 1909 and 1913 by acquiring the first motorized fire pump in New England. Hull adopted Civil Service protections for its firefighters in 1939. Today the department is led by Fire Chief Christopher J. Russo and organized into engine companies under captains and lieutenants, with an EMS-RTQI division overseeing training and quality improvement, and it is working toward a 'Heartsafe Community' designation by 2026 through free public CPR and AED training.
