Beyond emergency response to fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and motor vehicle accidents, the department's Fire Prevention Bureau conducts routine inspections of hotels, hospitals, theaters, schools, daycares, group homes, and other occupancies, issues place-of-assembly permits, enforces commercial cooking-hood cleaning requirements, and sends night inspectors into bars, nightclubs, and restaurants. The department also runs public education efforts, including school visits to teach fire safety.

The department describes its members as guided by six core values: integrity, service, teamwork, courage, accountability, and adaptability, framing firefighters as neighbors, coaches, and community volunteers as much as emergency responders.

MissionThe dedicated members of the Peabody Fire Department have made it our mission to respond to fires, medical emergencies, disasters and terrorist acts, and protect the lives and property of Peabody residents and visitors.
