Department careers page ↗Allendale Fire/Rescue protects Allendale Charter Township, a growing West Michigan community along Lake Michigan Drive between Grand Rapids and the lakeshore. The department traces its roots to 1945-46 and hired its first full-time fire chief in 1989.
The department runs a combination model: five full-time staff (a chief, captain, two lieutenants, and a fire prevention specialist) work alongside roughly 30 paid-on-call firefighters, for a roster of about 35. In 2023 it opened a new station at 6600 Lake Michigan Drive with sleeping quarters, replacing the older three-bay station built in 1973.
Its fleet includes two engines, a 100-foot aerial platform truck, a 5,000-gallon tanker, a brush rig, and a medical unit, reflecting a broad mission spanning fire suppression, EMS/EMT response, vehicle-accident rescue, and community risk reduction.
