About Bedford Township Fire Department

Bedford Township Fire Department traces its roots to 1944-45, when the Township Board appointed its first Fire Chief and put a newly purchased REO Speed Wagon engine into service out of a garage on Lewis Avenue while the original Temperance station was under construction. What began as two rival community brigades in Temperance and Lambertville merged into a single department in 1999, and a third station was added on Lewis Avenue in 2012, giving Bedford the three-station footprint it operates today.

The department now answers roughly 4,000 calls a year, the large majority medical in nature, and holds an ISO Class 3/3Y rating, placing it among the top-rated departments in Michigan. It is licensed by the State of Michigan as a Basic Life Support transport agency and maintains mutual aid agreements with every township in Monroe County as well as neighboring Lucas County, Ohio communities, including the City of Toledo. A blended roster of full-time and part-time firefighter-EMTs staffs an apparatus fleet that includes engines, a 100-foot aerial ladder, transport ambulances, and brush trucks for wildland and grass fires.

MissionThe mission of the Bedford Township Fire Department is to save, serve and protect the citizens and their property to the best of our ability.
