About Brandon Fire Department

Brandon Fire Department protects Brandon Township, including the village of Ortonville, Michigan, operating out of three stations located on South Street, Sashabaw Road, and Oakwood Road. Full-time officers, including Fire Chief David Kwapis, Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshal Jason Wilton, and EMS Coordinator Matt Bess, lead a roster of paid-on-call captains, lieutenants, engineers, and firefighter-medics who deliver fire suppression, rescue, hazardous materials response, and emergency medical services.

Beyond emergency response, the department runs a fire prevention and education program for kindergarten-through-fourth-grade classrooms, hosts fire station tours by request, and conducts inspections and burning-permit administration, led in part by Fire Prevention Coordinator Billy Starr.

The department belongs to the North Oakland Mutual Aid Association and maintains professional ties to the Michigan Fire Chiefs Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, and it fields specialized hazmat and technical rescue capabilities alongside its day-to-day paid-on-call staffing model.
