About Farmington Public Safety Department

The City of Farmington runs a unified public safety model rather than separate police and fire departments: every sworn Public Safety Officer is trained and certified in law enforcement, firefighting, and emergency medical response, and rotates through patrol, fire suppression, and investigative duties as needed. The department is organized into an Administration Division (budget, personnel, grants, and special events), a Uniform Patrol Division (emergency response, community policing, field training, school crossing guards, and fleet management), and a Special Operations Division (investigations, evidence, fire inspection and equipment maintenance, school liaison, and narcotics work), alongside dedicated fire suppression, inspection, hazmat, and public fire-safety education programs.

The department operates 24 hours a day, year-round, out of its Liberty Street facility just west of Farmington Road. In 2025 it added a new fire engine (Engine 1), marked with a traditional push-in ceremony, and acquired its first drone with support from a local church donation, reflecting a small department steadily modernizing its equipment.

MissionTo enhance the quality of life, safety and security of the community with professional services that value and respect the civil rights of all people.
