Livonia, MI · Wayne County
“Our Family, Protecting Your Family”
Livonia Fire & Rescue provides around-the-clock fire suppression and Advanced Life Support to the city of Livonia, a community of approximately 100,000 people spread over 36 square miles in Wayne County, in the Detroit metro area.
The department operates from five fire stations and staffs a deep fleet: four engines, a ladder truck, a 100-foot tower, a heavy rescue, five rescue squads, and a command vehicle, along with a housed Western Wayne County hazmat truck, a water rescue boat, and a USAR trailer.
Every Livonia firefighter is a licensed paramedic, so the same crews that fight fire also deliver Advanced Life Support. The department's capabilities extend to technical rescue, hazardous materials response, water rescue, and SWAT medic support.
Livonia hires firefighter/paramedics through the City of Livonia's careers portal at governmentjobs.com/careers/livonia. Because every firefighter is a paramedic, candidates generally need to hold (or be within 90 days of completing) a Michigan or National Registry Paramedic license along with Michigan Firefighter I & II certification.
The department also offers a paid pathway for people already working in EMS: qualified candidates can be sponsored to attend Fire Academy while earning a salary, with their education paid for by the City of Livonia.
