Department careers page ↗Lyon Township Fire Department is an all-risk public safety agency serving New Hudson and the surrounding Oakland County community from two stations, staffed by a combination of career and paid-on-call firefighter/EMTs operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The department describes its mission as providing "fire control, fire prevention, and any emergency service that the Department is equipped to provide," and it responded to 2,043 calls in 2025, the large majority of them medical aid rather than fire calls by the department's own account.
The department runs 13 pieces of apparatus across its two houses. Station 1 on Grand River Avenue in New Hudson carries Engine 1, Engine 3, Ladder 24, Rescue 1, Brush 1, and Tanker 1 along with the fire marshal's and chiefs' command vehicles, while Station 2 on Ten Mile Road in South Lyon covers the township's eastern side with Engine 2, Rescue 2, Brush 2, and Tanker 2. Beyond structural firefighting, LTFD provides hazardous materials response, vehicle extrication, ice/water rescue, basic life support medical transport, fire prevention inspections, and public fire-safety education.
Lyon Township Fire Department is actively recruiting part-time firefighters, and it will train residents of the township who have no prior certification, providing Firefighter I and II and Basic EMT instruction to candidates who are otherwise a good fit. Firefighters work 24-hour shifts, and applicants can apply with the department's paper application or by contacting the assistant chief directly.
