About Greenville Fire Department

Greenville Fire Department protects Greenville, Mississippi, in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, and describes itself as the largest fire department in the Delta region. The department traces its roots to January 1, 1904, when it began as a paid organization with a chief, an assistant chief, and eleven firefighters; it has since grown into a full-time force of 89 personnel operating out of eight stations across the city.

Today's GFD is organized under a fire chief and three assistant chiefs, supported by a fire marshal's office, a training coordinator, and a public relations officer. Company officers, engineers, and firefighters work 24-hour and 48-hour rotating shifts, handling roughly 1,200 emergency calls a year across fire suppression, fire inspections, and public safety education.

Beyond emergency response, the department maintains a connection to its own history through the Old No. 1 Firehouse Museum, a former station available to rent for community events, while its newest facility, Station 8, reflects continued investment in the city's firefighting infrastructure.

MissionThe department strives to provide the best service possible to all citizens throughout the city, whether it is fire suppression, fire inspections, and public safety, along with community service.
