About Papillion Fire Department

Papillion Fire Department is a combination department headquartered in La Vista, Nebraska, providing fire suppression, technical rescue, and advanced life support EMS to roughly 70,000 residents across 68 square miles spanning the cities of Papillion and La Vista and the Papillion Rural Fire District. Operating from four stations, the department keeps 18 to 20 firefighters on duty around the clock out of a workforce of 68 personnel, 60 of whom are assigned to suppression duties.

The department traces its modern form to April 2014, when the long-independent La Vista Volunteer Fire Department, which had served on its own for more than 50 years, merged with Papillion Fire. Papillion also founded the Tri-Mutual Aid agreement more than five decades ago, a mutual-aid network that has since grown to 29 agencies across five counties in eastern Nebraska. The department holds an ISO Public Protection Classification of 3/3Y as of 2021.

Beyond structural firefighting, crews train for confined-space rescue, surface water and ice rescue, rope rescue, trench rescue, hazmat operations, and vehicle extrication, alongside public fire-safety education, hydrant parties, and station tours for the community.
