About Las Vegas Fire & Rescue

Las Vegas Fire & Rescue serves the residents and visitors of Nevada's largest city, providing all fire suppression, prevention, and public education programs alongside paramedic-level emergency medical services. The department also runs the Combined Communications Center that handles Fire and Medical 9-1-1 dispatch.

The department carries an ISO Class One rating, the top classification for fire protection. Beyond structural firefighting, it fields specialized teams including a Bomb Squad, a Hazardous Materials Team, and a Technical Rescue Team.

What began as an all-volunteer service became a professional department on August 1, 1942, when the first full-time fire chief was hired. The department celebrated 80 years of professional service in 2022.
