Department careers page ↗Tahoe Douglas Fire Protection District was formed in 1946 to protect the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe against wildland fire in the wildland-urban interface, and today covers Zephyr Cove, Stateline, and Glenbrook from five stations. The district's operations reflect its unique lakeside setting, combining traditional structural firefighting and EMS with water rescue, ice rescue, and a dedicated wildland fuels-reduction crew (the Zephyr Crew) based at Station 22.
Beyond core suppression and EMS work, the district has built out several specialized programs uncommon for a department its size, including a Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) team that works alongside law enforcement, an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) partnership with regional bomb squads, a rescue swimmer program for Lake Tahoe water incidents, and technical rescue capability covering high-angle, confined space, and swift-water response. The district organizes itself around three guiding values it calls CPR: Care, Professionalism, and Respect.
MissionTDFPD's mission is to respond to, prepare for, and prevent emergency situations with care, professionalism, and respect.
The district recruits for firefighting, EMS, and administrative roles, and highlights specialized assignment opportunities in TEMS, EOD, rescue swimming, wildland firefighting, and technical rescue. Open positions are posted and applied for through the district's external Job Hub careers portal.
