About City Of Vineland Fire Department

The Vineland Fire Department traces its roots to July 23, 1872, when the city organized its first company, Vineland Hook and Ladder, in the wake of a downtown blaze that had destroyed several businesses. Over the following decades, neighborhood companies such as Niagara Engine, Pioneer, Reliance, South Vineland, North Vineland, Main Avenue, and East Vineland formed and eventually merged, and the department transitioned from horse-drawn and hand-operated equipment to motorized apparatus. The 1952 consolidation of Vineland Borough and Township into the City of Vineland brought the companies under a single municipal department.

Today VFD is a combination department of career and volunteer members operating out of six stations, with Station 6 serving as headquarters, under Director of Fire-EMS Richard Franchetta and Chief of Department Mark Cifaloglio. Its Emergency Medical Services Division runs three ambulances around the clock and adds a fourth "power shift" ambulance during the twelve heaviest call-volume hours of the day, and was recognized by the State of New Jersey as Public Provider of the Year in 2003.

The department actively recruits volunteer members 18 and older regardless of prior experience, covering the full cost of Firefighter 1 training and offering advanced certifications in hazmat, technical rescue, and vehicle extrication. The EMS Division separately hires certified EMTs into civil-service positions.

MissionThe mission of the Vineland Fire Department shall be the protection of human life and property from fire and other emergencies, the prevention of fires, and the extrication of all persons from dangers whatever the cause.
