The Hamilton Township Division of Fire is a unified career fire service covering Hamilton Township, New Jersey. It was created on January 1, 2021, when nine historically independent fire districts — each previously run by its own elected board of five commissioners with separate budgets — were merged into a single township-run Fire Division. The consolidation had been considered by the township for more than two decades before the Department of Community Affairs' Local Finance Board unanimously approved it in September 2020 and the township council adopted the enabling ordinances that October.
Today the division operates seven stations, several still carrying the names of their legacy fire companies: Mercerville (Station 12), Rusling Hose (Station 13), Hamilton (Station 14), De Cou (Station 15), White Horse (Station 16), Nottingham (Station 17), and Groveville (Station 19). The division describes itself as an always-present, multifaceted force responsible for fire prevention, suppression, technical rescue, hazardous materials response, emergency management, and medical response for township residents and visitors.
The division's Fire Prevention Bureau, based at 200 Mercer Street, enforces the New Jersey Uniform Fire Code through annual inspections of township buildings (other than owner-occupied one- and two-family homes), reviews life-safety system maintenance, and provides fire-safety education.
MissionAn always-present, multifaceted, and capable force responsible for preserving the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors.
