Department careers page ↗Gallup Fire Department is an all-hazards agency serving the City of Gallup, Gamerco Township, and surrounding McKinley County, New Mexico, through mutual and automatic aid agreements with area volunteer fire departments. The department responds to more than 6,000 calls a year with cross-trained firefighter/EMTs who deliver advanced life support alongside structural and wildland firefighting.
Beyond suppression and EMS transport, Gallup Fire Department maintains specialized capability in aircraft rescue firefighting (ARFF), hazardous materials response, and high-angle technical rescue. Its Fire Prevention division handles inspections, code enforcement, plan review, and fire-safety education, while the Training and EMS Division runs recruit training and ongoing certification for suppression and medical personnel. An Emergency Management office within the department also coordinates city-wide preparedness, incident command training, and disaster response planning.

New firefighters are cross-trained as EMTs (Basic, Intermediate, or Paramedic) and progress through Firefighter I & II (IFSAC), Driver Operator, Hazardous Materials Operations/Technician, and Fire Officer certifications as part of the department's ongoing training program.
The Training and EMS Division provides initial recruit training and ongoing certification in EMS, firefighting, driver operations, hazmat, and fire officer development for all suppression and medical personnel.
