About Sandoval County Fire Rescue

Sandoval County Fire & Rescue delivers fire suppression, emergency medical services, technical rescue, and wildland fire response across one of New Mexico's most geographically diverse counties. The department is organized into eight fire districts operating roughly 20 stations, staffed by approximately 280 career and volunteer firefighters, paramedics, and EMTs.

The service area spans about 3,700 square miles of rural communities, highways, and wildland-urban interface, and includes numerous tribal communities such as the Santa Ana, Zia, Cochiti, Santo Domingo, and San Felipe pueblos, along with portions of the Navajo Nation and Jicarilla Apache Nation.

As a combination department, SCFR blends career, PRN, residency, and volunteer members, and participates in regional specialty response including the Rio Grande Basin Heavy Technical Rescue Team.

How to get hired

Sandoval County Fire & Rescue recruits across several tracks: career and PRN (as-needed) firefighter roles, a resident firefighter program, and volunteer firefighter, EMT, and support positions. Growth across its eight districts keeps recruiting active, and prospective career candidates can add their names to an interest list for upcoming resident firefighter openings.

To start the process, contact Fire Administration at (505) 867-0245 or fdservice@sandovalcountynm.gov. Volunteer applicants submit a Volunteer Application (PDF) through the same office.
