Department careers page ↗Currituck County Fire & Emergency Medical Services (CCFEMS) is the county's paid, career fire and EMS agency, operating out of eight stations spread across Moyock, Sligo, Waterlily, Grandy, Powells Point, Corolla, Carova, and Knotts Island. The department staffs nine ambulances and three Advanced Life Support-certified fire engines around the clock, delivering state-of-the-art ALS-level emergency medical care to the entire county.
CCFEMS's role varies by area: in Corolla and Knotts Island it serves as the primary provider of fire suppression, while elsewhere in the county its personnel work alongside five independent volunteer fire departments (Carova Beach, Corolla, Crawford Township, Lower Currituck, and Moyock) rather than replacing them. Beyond structure fires and ambulance transport, crews handle vehicle extrication, search and rescue, and near-shore ocean rescue, and back up the Sheriff's Office and Corolla Beach Rescue on all-hazards calls and large public events.
The department has been designated a "Model Emergency Medical Services System" by the North Carolina State Office of Emergency Medical Services and is a certified and rated fire department under the NC Department of Insurance, Office of the State Fire Marshal. It is led by Chief Richard Lane, with an administrative office in Barco.
MissionThe mission of Currituck County Fire & Emergency Medical Services is to proudly serve the County of Currituck citizens and visitors with protection of life and property through professional fire, rescue, and emergency medical services.
Career CCFEMS positions are hired through Currituck County's general employment system rather than a dedicated fire/EMS careers page; most openings must be applied for online. Volunteer firefighting is handled separately through five independent Currituck County volunteer fire departments, supported by a county Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator.
