Department careers page ↗Guil-Rand Fire Department has protected the Archdale and Trinity area of central North Carolina since 1950, when its first apparatus was stationed at VFW Post 9899 just off Main Street in Archdale. Over the following decades the district grew substantially: Hillsville and Cedar Square joined in 1976 (tripling the department's coverage and adding Stations 21 and 41), Trinity joined in 1983 with the construction of Station 40, and Station 39 was added in Trinity in 2006. Today Guil-Rand describes itself as the largest county fire department in Randolph County by both population served and land area, spanning roughly 81 square miles across Randolph and Guilford counties.
The department operates as a combination agency, staffing five stations with career firefighters, administrative and mechanic staff, and volunteer and auxiliary members working three shifts to provide 24/7/365 coverage. Station 20 in Archdale serves as headquarters, housing administration, the Fire Marshal's Office, fleet maintenance, and a four-story on-site training tower used by personnel from all five stations. Beyond fire suppression, the department handles rescue operations, hazardous materials mitigation, emergency medical response, and fire prevention, inspections, and code enforcement across its growing service area.
