Department careers page ↗Thomasville Fire Department traces its roots to 1907, when the city's first volunteer company organized around four hand-pump hose reels stationed in each quarter of town. The department became a fully paid career operation in 1968 and has grown into a four-station agency that protects the entire city around the clock, currently led by Fire Chief Jason Myers.
A fourth station was added in 2004 to serve the annexed Fair Grove and Hasty communities, and the department reorganized in 2013 into administrative divisions covering Code Enforcement/Investigations, Training and Standards, and Fire and Life Safety. In 2017 the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal confirmed Thomasville's Class 3 ISO rating, and the department earned Heavy Rescue and Medical Responder certifications from the NC Association of Rescue and EMS, expanding the range of technical and medical calls its crews can handle.
Today the department runs a Career Development Program, first formalized in 1998, that lays out a clear path for personnel advancement, and its Division of Training and Standards logs thousands of hours a year keeping firefighters current on state and federal certification requirements.
