Today the department fields 48 full-time personnel working out of three fire stations — Central Fire Station, Fire Station 2, and Fire Station 3 — covering roughly 67 square miles and about 24,600 residents within city limits, an area that currently carries an ISO Public Protection Classification of 3.
DFD firefighters handle structural fire suppression, technical and water rescue, and hazard mitigation, backed by a fleet that includes four engines, two aerial/ladder trucks, three brush pumpers, and a dedicated rescue unit equipped with the Jaws of Life. The department is organized into Fire Administration, Fire Suppression, Fire Prevention, and Fire Training divisions, and runs a Community Education program alongside routine fire hydrant flow testing and inspection work.
