About Sapulpa Fire Department

Sapulpa Fire Department serves the City of Sapulpa, the county seat of Creek County in northeast Oklahoma's "Green Country" and part of the Tulsa metro area. The city grew rapidly after the 1905 discovery of the nearby Glenn Pool oilfield and the arrival of the Atlantic and Pacific railroad, and today its economy has diversified into manufacturing, with more than 120 manufacturers in the area. The fire department protects this mixed residential, commercial, and industrial base.

The department is led by Fire Chief James Vickrey, supported by a Deputy Chief of Operations, a Deputy Chief of Training, a Fire Marshal's office, and three shift Battalion Chiefs covering round-the-clock coverage. Apparatus includes engine, tanker, and brush-truck companies, giving the department both structural and wildland firefighting capability. The department also runs a Fire Prevention Division, a Training Division, and community programs such as an annual Fire Prevention Week school outreach and open house.

Hiring for the department runs through the City of Sapulpa's centralized Human Resources office rather than a standalone fire department careers page. Prospective applicants apply through the city's online Employment Opportunities portal and can direct questions to city HR.
