Department careers page ↗Formed through the merger of Douglas County Fire District No. 2 and the Winston-Dillard Fire District, Central Douglas Fire & Rescue (CDF&R) is a combination career/volunteer department serving Winston and the surrounding Douglas County communities of Dillard, Dixonville, Garden Valley, Green, Melrose, Umpqua and Winchester, Oregon.
The district covers roughly 150 square miles from seven fire stations - Winston-Dillard, Dixonville, Green, Melrose, Winchester, Garden Valley and Umpqua - and fields a Technical Rescue Team alongside its standard fire and EMS response. CDF&R also operates FireMed, a subscription ambulance membership program for residents in its service area.
A ten-member elected Board of Directors, each serving staggered two-year terms, sets policy for the district and meets monthly at the Winston-Dillard station, while day-to-day operations are led by Fire Chief Rob Bullock and a command staff of deputy and battalion chiefs.
CDF&R is a combination department of over 50 full-time career employees and more than 30 volunteers. Firefighter and firefighter-paramedic openings are posted on the department's Careers page as positions become available, and prospective applicants can also reach out directly through the site's contact form to ask about upcoming career opportunities.
