About Cumru Township Fire Department

Cumru Township Fire Department protects Cumru Township and neighboring Berks County communities from three operational stations, with a new central station under construction as of late 2025. The department was established by township ordinance in 2004 and officially became a single unified organization on July 1, 2010, after the consolidation of three legacy volunteer companies: Gouglersville Fire Company No. 1, Cedar Top Volunteer Fire Company No. 1, and Volunteer Fire Company No. 1 of Grill, PA.

Today the department operates as a combination force led by a career fire chief, with career captains and firefighters working alongside volunteer officers and firefighters. In 2023 the department responded to 1,015 calls, including fires, rescue/EMS incidents, alarms, hazardous conditions, and public service calls, reflecting a broad response profile that spans structural and wildland fire suppression, vehicle and machinery rescue, land-based water rescue and search, technical rescue, and hazmat first response.

MissionProvide emergency services through education, awareness and dedication and service of a well-trained, efficient and effective force.
