About Easton Fire Department

Firefighting in Easton predates the city's paid department by decades: the volunteer Humane Fire Company organized in 1797 as the borough's first fire company, followed by the Phoenix and Washington Fire Companies in the 1820s and 1840s. When Easton established a full-time, paid fire department in 1879, the old volunteer companies' stations and equipment, including at least one alarm bell, were folded into the new city service.

Today the Easton Fire Department runs three stations, Central, College Hill, and South Side, spread across the city so a unit can reach most emergencies within about four minutes. Firefighters handle structural firefighting, respond as first responders to medical emergencies ahead of ambulance arrival (including CPR and AED use), pump flooded basements, and run public fire-safety education, extinguisher training, and smoke-detector installation programs for residents.

The department is led by Fire Chief Henry Hennings and Deputy Fire Chief Chad Gruver, and answers roughly 1,800 calls for service a year while its Fire Marshal's Office handles about 600 inspections and investigations, on top of dozens of prevention programs reaching thousands of Easton schoolchildren and adults annually.

MissionThe City of Easton Fire Department is a team of professionals that serve with excellence, dedication, and pride. The members of the Easton Fire Department are committed to saving lives, protecting property, and improving the quality of life for our residents and visitors, by providing rapid and reliable services in all emergency and non-emergency activities.
