About City Of Pawtucket Fire Department

The Pawtucket Fire Department has served Rhode Island's fourth-largest city for over 150 years, growing from its 1874 roots into a full-service urban department. Today the PFD runs six engines, two ladder trucks, and four rescue units out of six stations spread across the city, with each shift led by a battalion chief.

Beyond structural firefighting, the department's Emergency Medical Division delivers Advanced Life Support care through rescue units staffed at the EMT-Cardiac and Paramedic level, answering more than 17,000 calls a year. A dedicated Fire Prevention Bureau handles inspections, code enforcement, and fire-safety education, while the Training Division onboards new recruits and coordinates ongoing in-service education for the whole department.
