About Colleton County Fire Rescue

Colleton County Fire-Rescue (CCFR) serves a predominantly rural county in the South Carolina Lowcountry, protecting a mix of residential, agricultural, commercial, and industrial property along with Interstate 95, rail corridors, and river systems.

The department operates a broad network of stations spread across communities from Walterboro to the coast at Edisto Beach and Edisto Island, running engines, tenders, rescue units, and medic units. Firefighter-Paramedics and Firefighter-EMTs staff A, B, and C shifts under a command structure of battalion chiefs, assistant and deputy chiefs, and the Fire-Rescue Chief.

CCFR is a recognized agency, named the 2021 South Carolina Emergency Management Association Agency of the Year and the 2021 SC EMS Association Large Agency of the Year, and it earned a 2025 Fire Safe Community designation from the SC State Fire Marshal's Office.

Beyond fire and EMS, the department supports community programs including the RUOK wellness-check program for elderly residents and Explorer Post 661.

How to get hired

Colleton County Fire-Rescue hires experienced, certified firefighters on an open-until-filled basis. Candidates need at least one year of firefighting experience, Firefighter II certification (IFSAC or ProBoard), and an EMT-level or higher EMS certification, plus a clean driving and criminal record.
