Department careers page ↗Lexington County Fire Service was established in 1974 by County Council to provide fire protection to residents across the county. Operating as a division of Emergency Services, it has grown from 7 inherited stations to 25 today, and reports up through the County Administrator with guidance from a fire advisory board.
The department covers all unincorporated areas of Lexington County (with mutual-aid agreements covering the municipalities of Cayce, West Columbia, Batesburg, Leesville, and Irmo). Roughly 99.7% of county properties sit within five miles of a fire station.
With more than 300 career personnel and volunteers combined and a fleet of around 91 vehicles, the service delivers fire suppression, basic life support EMS, prevention and public education, inspections and investigations, and special operations including hazardous materials and technical rescue.
