About West Florence Volunteer Fire Department

West Florence Fire-Rescue has protected the western part of Florence County, South Carolina since 1973 as a combination department that blends full-time career firefighters with dedicated volunteers. From its headquarters on S Ebenezer Rd and three additional stations along W. Milwaukee Dr, S Cashua Dr, and Hoffmeyer Rd, crews answer roughly 1,400 calls a year covering structure fires, medical emergencies, vehicle wrecks, hazardous materials incidents, and severe weather for about 25,000 residents.

Career staff and volunteers train to the same standards and run the same calls together, an integrated model the department says gives newer members real call volume and hands-on experience quickly. Beyond emergency response, the department runs a free smoke alarm installation program, public fire safety education, plan reviews, and special event permitting for the community it serves.

Firefighters who join West Florence Fire-Rescue can pursue specialization pathways in HAZMAT response, technical rescue, and fire investigation, alongside a traditional officer promotion track through Lieutenant, Captain, Battalion Chief, and Assistant Chief.
