About Huron Fire Department

The Huron Fire Department is a combination career-and-volunteer department serving the city of Huron in central South Dakota. Its full-time roster is organized into three shifts (A, B, and C), each led by a Captain and a Lieutenant, and supplemented by a large paid-per-call volunteer force.

The department operates two stations that are both staffed around the clock. North Station at 1357 Dakota Avenue North houses a city engine, rescue truck, aerial, two ARFF (aircraft rescue) trucks, three rural trucks, and two ambulances; South Station at 310 21st Street SE runs a city engine, a rural engine, and an ambulance.

With its mix of structural, rural/wildland, aircraft rescue, and ambulance transport apparatus, Huron covers a broad range of emergency response for a smaller South Dakota community.

Mission"Responsible for saving lives and property in the city through prevention, inspection, and rescue practices."
