About City Of Morristown Fire Department

The Morristown Fire Department traces its roots to 1896, when it began as an all-volunteer force under Chief A.H. Legg operating three hose carts and a hand-pulled hook-and-ladder wagon out of four company-based crews. Over the following century the department professionalized and expanded, adding its first motorized pumper in 1916, its first ladder truck in 1925, and growing to a multi-station career department through the mid-20th century. Recent decades have brought steady modernization, including new station construction through the 2000s, 2010s, and as recently as 2025 with the opening of Station #3 and its attached training facility.

Today MFD operates six stations across the city with 85 personnel, 78 of whom are assigned to fire suppression duties in three-shift rotations. The department runs a mixed apparatus fleet of six frontline engines, an aerial platform, a medical response vehicle, a 24-hour extrication/rescue unit, and a dedicated HazMat response engine, and it maintains specialized teams for hazardous materials response, technical extrication, and community fire-and-life-safety programs including car seat inspections and CPR instruction.

MissionTo protect life and property from harmful effects of fire, respond to natural or manmade disasters and provide emergency medical response
