Department careers page ↗Maury County Fire Department has answered the call for county residents since 1970, growing from a small volunteer force into an organization of more than 150 trained members operating out of 13 stations. It covers roughly 556 of the county's 618 square miles, serving residents who live outside the municipal city limits.
The department is structured as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supported in part by community donations. Beyond fire and rescue response, its members provide public fire education, CPR certification classes, and smoke detector installations across the county.
With a fleet of more than 50 vehicles and equipment pieces, the department relies on a mix of volunteer firefighters and experienced career/lateral members. It runs its own in-house academy, training new recruits at no cost to them.
Missionprotect the lives and property of the citizens of Maury County from fire and danger through Dedication, Sacrifice, Training, and Readiness
The department recruits in two tracks: volunteer firefighters for those with minimal or no experience, and career lateral-entry positions for experienced firefighters. Applications are accepted year-round, but the department holds just one recruit class per year.
Interested candidates submit an interest form. In August or September, department staff reach out to schedule testing, which consists of a physical agility test, a general knowledge written test, and an interview. Successful recruits begin a roughly six-month academy running October through March. All training is provided free of charge.
