Smyrna Fire Department

Smyrna Fire Department has served the Town of Smyrna since 1916, when local citizens organized after relying on bucket brigades, with Johnny Hager Sr. building the town's first apparatus from a 1913 Studebaker fitted with a wooden tank and hand pump. The department professionalized over the following decades, purchasing its first official engine in 1924 and naming Ben Culbertson its first fire chief, and has continued to modernize its fleet and facilities as Smyrna has grown.

Today the department operates out of six fire stations plus a Fire Administration office, delivering suppression, prevention, and education services under Fire Chief Brian Goss. Programs include station tours, a joint Fire and Police Youth Academy, child safety programming, burn permits, and fire inspection reporting, alongside its long-standing Honor Guard, formed in 1999, which performs ceremonial duties across Middle Tennessee and has earned national recognition in competition.
