About Baytown Fire Department

Baytown Fire Department is a full-time career fire service staffing seven fire stations along with a South Command facility, fire administration building, and a dedicated training field. The department fields about 168 uniformed personnel, most working a 48-hours-on/96-hours-off rotation.

The department is built around ten specialized divisions, including fire suppression, emergency medical services, hazardous materials mitigation, technical rescue, wildland fire services, and marine rescue and shipboard firefighting reflecting Baytown's petrochemical and Gulf Coast waterfront setting.

How to get hired

Baytown FD hires Firefighter/Paramedics and requires candidates to already hold paramedic certification through the National Registry or the Texas Department of State Health Services. Applicants test through the National Testing Network (NTN), then complete a written exam and a Physical Ability Test at the Baytown Fire Training Field; a valid CPAT certification can waive the department's PAT.

Applications are submitted through the city's GovernmentJobs portal. Lateral firefighter/paramedics are accepted and receive starting base pay credit for whole years of prior firefighter or paramedic experience (one-for-one, up to tier seven).
