About Harris County ESD 7

Spring Fire Department traces its roots to May 1953, when a small group of volunteers began protecting the community, funding operations through bake sales, steer auctions, and personal donations from members and residents. The department transitioned to tax-based funding in 1978 with the creation of Rural Fire Prevention District No. 1, and from 1997 to 2020 provided fire suppression and rescue services under contract with Harris County Emergency Services District No. 7 (HCESD7). In April 2020, Spring Fire Department became the direct service provider for HCESD7, formalizing a relationship the two organizations had built over decades.

Today Spring Fire is one of the largest combination fire departments in Texas, operating nine fire stations and a fleet of 49 apparatus under Fire Chief Scott Seifert. The department's Public Protection Classification from ISO improved to Class 2 in June 2020, up from Class 3 (2004-2020) and Class 6/9 before that, reflecting sustained investment in staffing, equipment, and training.

Beyond emergency response, the department runs an active community-safety program covering hurricane preparedness, smoke alarm installation, child car-seat installation, and pet microchip readers at all nine stations, alongside outreach events and CPR/AED education for residents of north Harris County.
