Klein Fire Department

Klein Fire Department traces its roots to 1951, when the all-volunteer Klein Volunteer Fire Department (KVFD) began providing fire suppression, first-responder EMS, and related services across the Klein district's 49-square-mile service area in northern Harris County. In September 2022, Harris County Emergency Services District No. 16 (HCESD 16) assumed direct responsibility for those services, and the department now operates as Klein Fire Department.

Today the department serves an ISO Class 2 community of nearly 200,000 residents living amid single-family neighborhoods, schools, high-density apartments and condominiums, light industry, and commercial retail centers. The district also includes an acute-care hospital, an FAA-controlled airport, and two major highways (SH-249 and SH-99) that cross through it. The department is a combination department, drawing on both career and volunteer members, and runs community-education programs including fire safety presentations, station tours, smoke-house demonstrations, school visits, car-seat safety inspections, and smoke-alarm installation.
