About Pasadena Fire Department

The Pasadena Volunteer Fire Department (PVFD) has protected the city of Pasadena, Texas since 1930, when it was founded with 25 members. Today it fields around 200 volunteers operating out of nine fire stations with more than 40 pieces of apparatus, and it holds the distinction of being the largest single municipal volunteer fire department in the country.

The department serves a population of roughly 140,000 people across 52 square miles, responding to about 170 emergency calls each month that span structure fire, rescue, and hazardous-materials work. Pasadena sits in the heart of the Houston Ship Channel petrochemical corridor.

Because of that industrial setting, PVFD is an active member of the Channel Industries Mutual Aid (CIMA) organization and provides mutual-aid support to neighboring municipalities as well as Ellington Field, Johnson Space Center, the University of Houston-Clear Lake, and Taylor Lake.

The department preserves its heritage alongside modern operations. Its first pumper, a 1929 American LaFrance nicknamed "Old Betsy," is still kept in the fleet and appears at community events.

MissionPrevent and minimize the loss of life and property of the Citizens and fire service personnel; to mitigate the consequences of natural and man-made disasters.
