About Travis County Fire Rescue

Travis County Fire Rescue grew out of scattered local fire protection efforts into a unified, professional department that now answers for three separate emergency services districts: Travis County ESD 11, Travis County ESD 15, and Caldwell-Hays ESD 1. Rather than running as three disconnected agencies, the districts pool their boards, funding, and command structure into one operating fire-rescue organization, which lets them staff stations and apparatus at a scale none of the individual districts could sustain alone.

The department covers roughly 231 square miles southeast of Austin, reaching the communities of Del Valle, Elroy, Garfield, Mustang Ridge, Creedmoor, Niederwald, Uhland, and Dale. That footprint mixes semi-rural county land with fast-growing residential and industrial development near the Austin-Bergstrom airport corridor, and the department's ten fully staffed stations provide fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical response across it.

With 165 full-time firefighters, Travis County Fire Rescue is a combination-district department of meaningful scale for the region, and it hires directly into line positions rather than running applicants through a sponsored recruit academy first.

MissionServe the citizens of Travis County in whatever capacity possible with fighting fires and saving lives at the forefront.

How to get hired

Travis County Fire Rescue hires certified Firefighter/EMTs directly (no in-house recruit academy is described) and is currently accepting applications through an online form. A separate Emergency Vehicle Technician II opening is also posted, handled through Caldwell/Hays ESD 1.
