Department careers page ↗Provo Fire and Rescue has protected the community since 1890 and today operates as a modern, professional all-hazards response organization. The department provides fire suppression, paramedic ambulance transport, hazardous materials management, rescue operations, fire prevention, and public education across the city.
Operations run out of six facilities: Fire Stations 21 through 25 plus Airport Station 26, which supports aircraft rescue at the Provo Airport. Fire Station 21 was rebuilt and reopened in December 2024, replacing a station that had stood since 1971.
The department emphasizes constant readiness through continuous training, apparatus and facility maintenance, pre-fire planning, and physical fitness, backed by specialty teams in wildland, hazmat, aircraft rescue, special rescue, and EMS.

Provo hires firefighters into a career track that rewards certification and experience, with pay tiered from Firefighter/EMT up to Firefighter/Paramedic. New firefighters work a 48/96 schedule and can join specialty teams including Wildland, ARFF, Special Rescue (SRT), Hazardous Materials, and EMS units. Promotions to Captain, Battalion Chief, and Deputy Chief are earned through competitive examinations.
