About Fauquier County Fire Rescue System

Fauquier County Fire Rescue System (FCFRS) blends volunteer fire and rescue companies with career fire rescue technicians to deliver fire suppression, advanced life support EMS, technical rescue, hazardous materials mitigation, fire prevention, and emergency management across the county. The System is overseen by a Fire Rescue Chief and coordinates with the county's Fire Rescue Executive Committee and Fire Operations Committee on policy, budgeting, and volunteer-career integration.

The department has been actively investing in its workforce, moving fire rescue technicians from a 48-hour to a 42-hour work week to improve recruitment, retention, and firefighter wellness, and it runs recurring recruit school cycles for entry-level hires alongside a dedicated Lateral Academy pathway for experienced firefighter/EMTs from other departments. New hires train through a structured recruit school before being assigned to career stations throughout the county.

Community-facing programs include free smoke alarm and carbon monoxide alarm distribution, open-air burning guidance, fire prevention and public education outreach, and participation in Smart911 and Alert Fauquier emergency notification systems.

MissionTo protect the lives and property of Fauquier County citizens and visitors through exceptional emergency medical care, fire suppression, rescue, and education. Supported by the resources, training, and teamwork needed to serve at the highest level, we operate as a unified career and volunteer system grounded in integrity, unity, teamwork, and performance.
