Department careers page ↗Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue provides fire and emergency medical protection to the unincorporated communities surrounding Port Angeles, Washington, including Gales Addition, Dry Creek, Elwha, Deer Park, Black Diamond, and Lake Sutherland, as well as the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe. The district traces its roots to May 1945, when an all-volunteer women's brigade known as the "Scrappy 6," led by Chief Thelma Moffat, began protecting the Gales Addition neighborhood out of a donated fire hall, training weekly alongside the Port Angeles Fire Department.
Today the district operates four stations across its service area and blends career, part-time, and volunteer personnel to deliver fire suppression and EMS response. In 2021 the department completed a Washington Survey and Ratings Bureau (WSRB) five-year evaluation with positive results, reflecting ongoing investment in training and equipment as the district has grown well beyond its 1945 origins.
Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue recruits across several tracks: part-time Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic positions recruit continuously, volunteer Firefighter/EMT openings are filled through a quarterly hiring process, and per diem positions are also available. Career Firefighter/EMT and Firefighter/Paramedic openings run on periodic application windows; as of this writing the career application period is closed while candidate assessments are underway.
