Clark County Fire District 6 traces its roots to 1954, when a house fire in Hazel Dell exposed the area's lack of organized fire protection. Local leaders met at the Totem Pole Restaurant to form a district, voters approved its creation, and the department grew from an all-volunteer force of 65 firefighters with two used engines into a modern career agency. Milestones along the way include its first permanent station in 1956, its first paid chief in 1958, its first full-time firefighter in 1967, and the addition of paramedic-level EMS service and 911 dispatch in 1980.
Today CCFD6 operates four 24/7-staffed stations — Station 61 (headquarters) in Hazel Dell, Station 62 serving Felida and Lakeshore, Station 63 serving Salmon Creek and Mt. Vista (built in 2019 to keep pace with the district's fastest-growing area), and jointly-operated Station 151 covering the Fairgrounds and Whipple Creek area. The department runs engines and a truck company out of these stations along with a squad unit, and houses its training division at Station 63.
Over 80% of CCFD6's call volume is emergency medical in nature, handled by ALS paramedics alongside structural fire suppression. The department also fields a technical rescue capability through the Southwest Washington Region 4 team and responds to hazardous materials incidents. Beyond emergency response, CCFD6 runs community programs including free smoke alarm installation and blood pressure checks at its stations, CERT disaster-preparedness training, a youth firesetter intervention program, and a two-year Fire Cadet career-development program through Cascadia Tech Academy.
MissionDedicated to excellence in protecting and serving our community.
