About Mason County Fire District #4

South Mason Fire & Rescue, operating as Mason County Fire District #4, has protected the South Mason County community from its base in Shelton, Washington since 1950. The district covers 52 square miles from a network of seven stations (Stations 41-47), staffed by a blend of career firefighters working rotating 24/7 shifts, active volunteer firefighters, and support personnel including a Mobile Integrated Health program of nurses and peer support specialists.

The department responds to structure fires, medical emergencies, technical rescues, and other calls throughout its district with a fleet of engines, ambulances, tenders, brush trucks, command vehicles, and utility trucks. Leadership includes Fire Chief Greg Rudolph and Assistant Chief Jess Fulkerson, supported by an elected Board of Fire Commissioners.

South Mason Fire & Rescue hires career firefighters for 24/7 emergency response and maintains an ongoing Volunteer Firefighter Program that provides full training, gear, and support to community members who want to serve part time. Non-operational roles such as administrative support, community outreach, and logistics are also occasionally available.
