About North Mason Regional Fire Authority

North Mason Regional Fire Authority was formed on January 1, 2014, through the merger of Mason County Fire Districts 2 and 8. Its roots trace back to 1946, when the Belfair Volunteer Fire Department began operating with a single WWII-surplus fire engine out of a Quonset hut, serving roughly 400 residents.

Today the Authority serves approximately 22,000 residents across Belfair, Dewatto, Collins Lake, Trails End Lake, Tahuya, Maggie Lake, and the Hood Canal shoreline, responding to roughly 2,600 alarms a year, nearly 85% of which are emergency medical calls. The department blends a career workforce with volunteer firefighters, EMTs, paramedics, and a non-emergency Community Response Team (CRT), operating out of two 24-hour staffed stations, one daytime-staffed station, and six additional volunteer stations.

The Authority describes itself as an essential, trusted, and valued community partner, and continues to grow its Mobile Integrated Healthcare Program alongside its traditional fire and EMS response mission.
