About Renton Regional Fire Authority

Renton Regional Fire Authority was formed after Renton voters approved the creation of a special-purpose fire district, with operations beginning July 1, 2016. The authority combines fire protection and emergency medical services for the City of Renton and neighboring King County Fire District 25 under a shared regional governance model overseen by a seven-member board drawn from the city council and district commissioners.

The authority is organized into five divisions -- Response Operations, EMS/Health & Safety, the Office of the Fire Marshal, Support Services, and Administration -- and operates seven fire stations across Renton. Firefighters are cross-trained as EMTs, and the department responds to structure fires, hazardous materials incidents, technical rescues, water rescues, and emergency medical calls, while also handling fire inspections, plan review, and public education for the communities it serves.

In June 2026 the authority marked its 10th anniversary of service, reflecting a decade of combined city and district fire protection under the regional authority model.
